Frequently Asked Questions

We know that navigating reading struggles can feel overwhelming, and we’re here to make the process as clear and supportive as possible. Whether you’re wondering what to expect from our assessments, how tutoring works, or whether your child needs a diagnosis, you’ll find answers to our most common questions below. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, feel free to reach out — we’re happy to help.

What ages do you work with?

We work with students between the ages of 5 and 18+. Younger students typically begin with foundational assessments like the PAST or DIBELS, while students 7 and up are assessed using the WIST to better understand reading and spelling skills.

What is the evaluation process like?

After completing our intake form, you’ll be contacted to schedule an assessment. Testing typically takes 30–40 minutes and is conducted 1:1 with a trained evaluator. Parents are welcome to observe, but we kindly ask that you don’t assist your child during the test to ensure accurate results. Assessments are completed online or in-person.

When will I receive the evaluation results?

You’ll receive a written report within 7–10 days of the assessment. This report outlines your child’s strengths and areas for growth, along with next-step recommendations.

Is tutoring online or in person?

Tutoring is primarily conducted online to accommodate busy schedules and geographic flexibility. In some cases, in-person options may be available depending on tutor availability and location.

How often do tutoring sessions occur?

Most students attend 2–3 sessions per week, but this can be adjusted based on your child’s needs and schedule. We’ll work with you to create a consistent and effective learning plan.

Does my child need a formal diagnosis?

No diagnosis is necessary. Whether your child has an IEP, a diagnosis of dyslexia, ADHD, or simply struggles with reading, we are here to help. Our approach is personalized for each learner, regardless of labels.
